Jay Z and Lin-Manuel Miranda will work together on film version of ‘In The Heights’

There’s no slowing down for Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Oscar nominee, who is currently is in London filming Mary Poppins Returns, has another project underway: a film adaptation for his broadway play In the Heights.

Multifaceted mogul Jay Z will be joining the Hamilton creator as a co-producer in the new film project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Film producer Harvey Weinstein confirmed the news at his pre-Oscars gala this past Sunday. Last year, Jay Z signed a first-look deal with The Weinstein Company and as his first project, produced a six-part docu-series about the late Kalief Browder, which takes a closer look at the criminal justice system in America.

“I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” shared the rapper.

In the Heights, which marked Miranda’s debut on Broadway and won four Tony Awards – including Best Musical – in 2008, tells the story of a group of young people from the Washington Heights area, a neighborhood in New York City known for its great Dominican influence.
